Francesco Acerbi’s departure from Lazio in the summer is all but confirmed now following a difficult season.

The 34-year-old Italian centre back initially struggled to adapt to Maurizio Sarri’s system in Rome and he was criticised by the fans in the opening months of the campaign. In a win over Genoa back in December, Acerbi celebrated his goal by doing the ‘’shh’ celebration, something which infuriated the Biancocelesti faithful, who haven’t forgiven him despite an apology.

As reported by Il Messaggero, Acerbi and Sarri have never really been on the same wavelength and Lazio are ready to part ways with the veteran centre back in the summer. Their top option to replace him is Alessio Romagnoli, but they’re also monitoring other players should that deal fall through.

Sarri’s top choice to replace Acerbi is Hellas Verona’s Nicolo Casale, who can play as both a centre back and a left back. Acerbi himself has been linked with a move to Simone Inzaghi’s Inter.
