Jose Mourinho assures Tammy Abraham’s shoulder injury is ‘not as serious’ as the one that ruled Nicolò Zaniolo out for three to four weeks.

The striker landed awkwardly after a collision with Rodrigo Becao during this evening’s 4-0 Serie A defeat to Udinese at the Dacia Arena.

He tried to continue for a few minutes, moving gingerly, before asking to be substituted.

Speaking at a press conference after the match, Mourinho confirmed it was not the same type of injury that Zaniolo had suffered last month, which had seen the Italy international dislocate his shoulder.

Instead, it has been diagnosed as trauma to the left shoulder, so there was no dislocation or lesion.

“It is not as serious as the injury Zaniolo had, it doesn’t seem to be anything bad.”

That is also good news for a very special guest of the match, as England manager Gareth Southgate was in the stands to keep an eye on potential 2022 World Cup players Abraham and Chris Smalling.

It was not the best time to view them in action, seeing as Roma were beaten 4-0 by Udinese, suffering their first defeat of the season.
