Christian Abbiati is “hearing really positive things” about Vincenzo Montella’s Milan.

The former goalkeeper retired at the end of last season, having made almost 400 appearances across 18 years with the Rossoneri.

“There’s a great desire for redemption,” Abbiati explained to Quotidiano Sportivo.

“I often hear from my [former] teammates. They’ve rejuvenated the squad and sent away an old man like me!

“There’s a great desire for redemption,” Abbiati explained to Quotidiano Sportivo.

“I often hear from my [former] teammates. They’ve rejuvenated the squad and sent away an old man like me!

“Montella? He’s trying to bring the right mindset. He’s really done well to shelter the squad from the stuff surrounding the sale of the club.

“I’m a little detached, but I’m hearing really positive things about the quality of his work.”

Abbiati won three Scudetti and a Champions League in his time with the Diavolo, and he says the mentality of the squad was a key reason.

“I was lucky enough to play for a great Milan, which really won everything. What counted in that regard was the people.

“They thought about the badge on the front of the shirt, not the name on the back. It was important to have reliable people, professionals.

“That doesn’t mean living a cloistered life, but it wasn’t even like I didn’t want to go out after a defeat, I didn’t even want to eat after a draw, because at a big club like Milan you have to win regardless.”
