Milan team manager Christian Abbiati said Leonardo Bonucci “has the right charisma and character” to be their captain.

The former Juventus defender is the captain in his first start for the Rossoneri, tonight’s friendly against Real Betis at the Stadio Massimino in Catania.

“Seeing the previous captains, it’s a heavy armband to wear,” Abbiati told Rete 4.

“Leo has the right charisma and character, this is his first appearance with the Milan captain’s armband.

“It’s an important friendly to get minutes in our legs and we are playing a team that is respected in Spain, even if they played another friendly yesterday.”

Abbiati was asked if there was truth in reports Milan could bring back Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“I don’t know if Ibra could return or not, but I said when I was a player too that any champions are welcome to improve the squad.”
