Abate limped off during the 3-0 Champions League victory over Celtic on Tuesday, while Abbiati is suffering from flu symptoms.

As Marco Amelia is also injured, this means Gabriel has to start in goal.

The other absentees include Philippe Mexes, Robinho, Sulley Muntari, Cristian Zaccardo and Mattia De Sciglio, while Cristian Zapata is suspended.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri therefore has only four defenders at his disposal and announced Andrea Poli will play at right-back.

Milan squad for Catania: Coppola, Gabriel, Ferrari; Bonera, Constant, Silvestre, Vergara; Birsa, Cristante, Emanuelson, De Jong, Kaka', Montolivo, Nocerino, Poli, Saponara; Balotelli, El Shaarawy, Matri, Niang
