Matteo Moretto confirms that coach Paulo Fonseca wants Tammy Abraham at Milan, so Alexis Saelemaekers could be the key to a deal with Roma.

Football Italia transfer expert Matteo Moretto reports the latest updates on Milan’s pursuit of Abraham.

Saelemaekers potential key to Abraham transfer

Moretto wrote in his Caught Offside’s Daily Briefing column that the Rossoneri already snapped up Alvaro Morata in a bargain move from Atletico Madrid after his crucial role in winning EURO 2024 for Spain, but are seeking another centre-forward too, as Luka Jovic is not trusted to cover the role.

It has been clear for some time that Fonseca’s first choice is Abraham, who is pushed down the pecking order at the Stadio Olimpico by the arrival of Artem Dovbyk.

With the €25m asking price considered too much, Milan will try to use a player exchange to make it an easier move, and the search is very much on.

Davide Calabria had been the prime candidate, fulfilling a right-back role that is uncovered for the Giallorossi, but it would be unpopular to sell their captain.

Moretto points out that the latest intriguing option is Saelemaekers, who just returned from a solid loan spell with Bologna.

The Belgium international only just turned 25 in June and was also linked with Napoli and Leicester City earlier this summer.

However, he impressed in pre-season friendly matches and there are also reports that Fonseca could be prepared to keep Saelemaekers in the squad.

  1. This is not a good idea. Saelemaekers is very versatile player. Abraham can play only as an attacker. And I think there are better options on market.
