Il Corriere dello Sport analyses five ‘steps’ for Thiago Motta and director Cristiano Giuntoli as they prepare to start a new era at Juventus.

Juventus are set to appoint Thiago Motta as their new head coach and it will be a fresh start for the Bianconeri who sacked Massimiliano Allegri just two rounds before the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Il Corriere dello Sport analyses five key steps for Allegri’s successor and Giuntoli, who has been pushing to hire the ex-Italy international over the last few months.

Juventus’ key steps: European trophies

First and foremost, Juventus will return to the Champions League after a one-season ban, and over the summer, they’ll be playing in the first-ever Club World Cup. Those are important targets on the pitch, but they will also be a breath of fresh air for the club’s finances.

Juventus’ key steps: Giuntoli-Motta in sync

It is no secret, and Allegri’s outbursts in the Coppa Italia Final last month confirmed that the Italian tactician was not on good terms with Giuntoli. On the other hand, the Bianconeri director has chosen Motta, so they’ll have to be in sync during the summer transfer window and make the right moves to strengthen the team.

Juventus’ key steps: Sales and transfer budget

Sales will be a key part of the Juventus strategy, and the third step concerns the youth who will probably leave after convincing loan spells. Matias Soulé and Dean Huijsen’s sales should help Juventus get at least €50m, while Atalanta‘s Teun Koopmeiners remains the main target for the midfield.

Juventus’ key steps: FIFA and UEFA

There are also off-the-pitch objectives for the Juventus coach and director. One concerns FIFA and UEFA. Juventus were among the clubs pushing for the Super League during Andrea Agnelli’s tenure, but his successors have been way more cautious on this front and will even rejoin ECA shortly.

Juventus’ key steps: Fans

Last but not least, Motta and Giuntoli must make convincing choices for the fans. There are two different factions in the Juventus fanbase. Ultras openly supported Max Allegri and said last month that they didn’t want Motta. On the opposite side, many ordinary fans, wanted Allegri sacked to start a new cycle and bring a new philosophy on the pitch. Obviously, one way to make them all happy is to be competitive again and win as many trophies as possible.
