Carlo Ancelotti Real Madrid point (Brazil)

Carlo Ancelotti recorded a landmark 200th victory in charge of Real Madrid with the team’s 4-2 victory away to Osasuna in LaLiga over the weekend, but another impressive stat for the Italian remains subject to debate.

Ancelotti became just the second coach in Real Madrid history to reach 200 victories in all competitions, after the legendary Miguel Munoz, who holds the record of 357 wins from 605 outings in the 1960s and 70s.

Ancelotti’s 200 victories is made up of 129 wins in LaLiga, 43 in the Champions League, 18 in the Copa del Rey, four in the Supercopa de Espana, another four in the Club World Cup and two more in the European Super Cup.

During that time, Ancelotti has also brought 10 trophies to the Santiago Bernabeu, including one league title, two Champions Leagues, two Club World Cups, two European Super Cups, two in the Copa del Rey and a Supercopa de Espana.

Ancelotti also remains the only coach to have won league titles in all five of Europe’s ‘top’ divisions, namely LaLiga with Real Madrid, Serie A with Milan, the Premier League with Chelsea, the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich and Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.

He is also still the only coach to have won four Champions League titles, two of which came with Milan, the other two with Real Madrid.

According to Real Madrid’s club website, Ancelotti has also recently overseen his 900th league match in charge of a top division club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport points out, however, that that figure includes two matches from a UEFA Cup playoff between Juventus and Udinese in 1998-99, which is not technically a league fixture, even though they faced another Italian side on that occasion.

If the European play-off in 1999 is not counted towards Ancelotti’s league tally, then he will reach his 900th top-flight league match away against RCD Mallorca on April 13.

Real Madrid recently rewarded Ancelotti with a new contract extension, which will run until the summer of 2026.
