Tiago Pinto insists Roma must ‘get back on track’ straight away after the derby defeat by getting the result away to Milan, but warns there will be no more reinforcements.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 GMT.

This has been a rough couple of weeks for the Giallorossi, who slipped down the league standings with a 1-1 draw against Atalanta, then lost the Derby della Capitale to rivals Lazio in the Coppa Italia quarter-final.

“Obviously, after an elimination and defeat in the derby, it is not very easy to recover quickly, but we knew this was a very difficult fixture list,” the director told DAZN.

“The big clubs with ambitions know how to get back on track, we are here with motivation, knowing it is a difficult test against a strong team, but we want the points.”

Jose Mourinho will sit out a touchline ban, but he made a surprise decision to bench Rui Patricio, giving Mile Svilar his first Serie A start of the season.

“We have two very good goalkeepers, Mile has done well when called upon and this is the decision the coach made.”

Tiago Pinto was irritable when asked if Roma were working on more reinforcements in defence.

“There was talk about a defender, we signed Dean Huijsen, he had a very good first couple of games and you keep asking me about defenders.

“I have been very clear that we have certain limitations financially and there are a few things we need to resolve towards the end of the transfer window. Our focus now is on exits more than players who are coming in.”

Tiago Pinto already announced he is leaving at the end of the January transfer window, while Mourinho’s future also remains in doubt. Will Roma offer the Special One a new contract?

“We need to focus on the present and it’s best if you all stop asking us the same questions before every game. We’ll see at the right time with the right people.”
