Alessandro Florenzi has left the public prosecutor’s office in Turin after a meeting that lasted just over an hour in the investigation into illegal gambling, testifying he did not bet on football.

The Milan full-back was informed last night that he had been placed under investigation and was called in this afternoon to give a deposition to the public prosecutor.

This is the same investigation that resulted in a seven-month ban for Juventus midfielder Nicolò Fagioli and a 10-month ban for Newcastle United star Sandro Tonali.

Aston Villa player Nicolò Zaniolo is also under investigation, but so far there have been no charges.

Like Zaniolo, it is reported by news agency ANSA that Florenzi did not place bets on football matches, but did use illegal gambling sites for games like roulette.

If confirmed, it is likely he will only receive a fine rather than a ban.

Considering it was such a short meeting with the public prosecutor and a brief deposition, it seems likely that Florenzi is not facing particularly serious charges.
