Arthur Melo has rediscovered his form at last with Fiorentina, hopes to get back into the Brazil squad and insists the Viola ‘have Champions League ambitions.’

The midfielder has struggled badly to get any kind of regular playing time at Barcelona, Juventus and on loan at Liverpool, but is flourishing at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

He helped the team progress to joint third place in Serie A with Juventus, just four points off leaders Milan.

“We have the ambition to qualify for the Champions League,” Arthur told EFE Brasil.

“The important thing is to have consistency and we must face every game with a winning mentality. It has been a very strong start, but there is a long way to go. Every match could be decisive.”

The 27-year-old is on loan at Fiorentina for up to €4m with an option to buy for a further €20m.

It remains a far cry from the €80.6m valuation he was given when joining Juve from Barcelona.

“I would like to return to the Brazil squad and I know that to do that, I need to impress at Fiorentina. I was able to settle in very quickly because I already knew Serie A, but above all thanks to my teammates, who helped from the first day.

“I also get along well with the coach and that is a very important factor.”

The loan spell at Liverpool last season was a flop, largely due to the on-going injury problems, making just one senior appearance for the team, lasting 13 minutes.

“It was very tough last season, the injury did not allow me to play at Liverpool. I feel good physically now, I get along with my teammates and I like our playing style.”
