Rafael Leao admits Milan are ‘looking forward’ to the Derby della Madonnina clash with Inter on Saturday, describes his best goals and why this is ‘the right moment’ to wear the Number 10 jersey.

The Portuguese talent was at the Premio Gentleman event this evening to pick up an award for Goal of the Season, the third scored in the Rossoneri’s 4-0 thrashing of Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

He may well be in contention for the award again next year after starting the season with an acrobatic volley against Roma.

“I had been trying for a while to score an overhead kick and it was a wonderful moment when it finally arrived, especially as I had never scored at the Stadio Olimpico. For a player, the overhead kick is the most satisfying way to score,” said Leao.

“I am not an egotistical player, so I try to do the right thing when taking men on, whether that is to go for goal or assist a teammate. I always check to see if someone is in a good position for the pass.”

After signing a new contract with the Rossoneri, Leao was also promoted to the iconic Number 10 jersey.

“It is the number of the great players at Milan. It felt like the right moment to take that on and show everyone what I can do wearing that jersey.”

Milan and Inter are the joint Serie A leaders and go head-to-head in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.

“It is always a great game and both teams are fired up. Me and all my teammates are looking forward to this match. May the best team win.”

Inter dominated the derby last season, winning four in a row between Serie A,  the Supercoppa Italiana and the Champions League semi-final, all without conceding a goal.
