The absence of Ciro Immobile from the starting XI means that Gianluigi Donnarumma will be the Italy captain against Ukraine, but a section of the crowd is still expected to jeer him over his Milan past.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Luciano Spalletti makes several changes from the side that drew 1-1 in North Macedonia on Saturday, including the introduction of Giacomo Raspadori as a centre-forward.

Immobile had been the captain in Skopje as the player with the most senior caps, a role that now falls to Donnarumma on his 55th appearance for the Azzurri at senior level.

It will be the goalkeeperโ€™s seventh game as Italy captain, the first being in the Nations League third place final against Belgium in October 2021.

His record as captain is of four wins, one draw and a 5-2 Nations League defeat to Germany.

However, his status as captain will do little to calm the expected chorus of jeers heading his way every time he touches the ball, because some Milan supporters remain bitter at his exit for a free transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

Spalletti too has appealed for the crowd to get behind all their players while representing Italy, but this does not seem to be likely.
