There might be a little awkwardness when Italy line up against Ukraine this evening, because Mattia Zaccagni is married to Nicolò Zaniolo’s ex and they are for the first time in the same starting XI.

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Luciano Spalletti has made numerous changes from the side that drew 1-1 with North Macedonia in Skopje on Saturday, including Ciro Immobile on the bench for the introduction of Giacomo Raspadori and Zaniolo.

Lazio winger Zaccagni is the only remaining member of the original trident attack, as Matteo Politano pulled out through injury.

This means Zaccagni and Zaniolo are teammates for the first time at club or international level, which could provide a little awkwardness.

It is only Zaccagni’s third senior Italy cap, as Roberto Mancini barely even called him up to the squad.

Zaniolo had a relationship with influencer Chiara Nasti, then after they broke up, she fell in love with Lazio winger Zaccagni.

The pair had a little boy that they named Thiago, who was born in November 2022, and got married this year.

Nasti was understandably furious when during the Rome Derby, Giallorossi fans aimed a chant in her direction suggesting the baby might’ve been Zaniolo’s.

Zaniolo does have a child with another ex-partner, Sara Scaperotta, but they broke up when she was pregnant in 2021.
