Trapani are preparing to fight for promotion to Serie C and working to sign former Arsenal and Roma winger Gervinho.

The 36-year-old Ivorian forward is currently plying his trade in Greece with Aris Saloniki, who he joined last summer after a one-year spell with Trabzonspor came to an end.

Before heading to Turkey, Gervinho spent time in Italy with Parma, where he scored 25 goals and provided eight assists in 89 appearances.

Calciomercato.com highlights how Serie D side Trapani are dreaming of signing Gervinho this summer, something confirmed by ambitious club president Valerio Antonini.

Antonini discussed the idea of signing the former Arsenal and Roma winger, saying: “We have identified players of important stature and functional to the tactical credo of our coach. I want to give a gift to the city.”

The Italian side’s chances of signing Gervinho seem slim, however, with the president also admitting that “he asked for too high a sum”.

Trapani is a small city on the west coast of Sicily. The club have regularly bounced around the lower divisions of Italian football and recently reached as high as Serie B in 2019.
