Davide Frattesi may be forced to miss out on Italy’s upcoming Nations League third place match with the Netherlands.

The 23-year-old midfielder played 76 minutes of the Azzurri’s 2-1 loss to Spain in the semi-finals, showing positive signs before he was replaced by Marco Verratti.

Frattesi is one of the hottest topics of this summer’s transfer window, with Inter, Roma and Juventus all hungry to secure his signature in the coming weeks.

As reported by Sky Sports Italia, Frattesi was expected to start for Italy against the Netherlands on June 18 but could now be sidelined after suffering a knee problem. Tests will be carried out shortly to identify the seriousness of the issue.

The Sassuolo midfielder is one of the next generation of players in the Italian national team and will likely receive more caps in the run-up to Euro 2024, the Azzurri’s next possible major tournament. He has made five appearances so far for Italy.
