Juventus’ chief football officer Francesco Calvo has confirmed that the club are considering making an appeal over the decision to close a portion of their stadium after racist chanting was heard from the stands during the Coppa Italia semi-final against Inter on Tuesday.

Racist taunting targeted in the direction of Inter’s Romelu Lukaku was heard from certain sections of the Allianz Stadium during the 1-1 cup draw.

A decision was made by the sporting judge in Italy ruled that the Tribuna Sud stand of Juve’s stadium will be closed for one game as a result of the racist incidents from certain individuals within the ground.

The closure will fall on Juve’s next home game, which happens to be against the Serie A league leaders Napoli on April 23.

Juan Cuadrado was also shown a red card for attempting to punch Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic after the referee blew for full time on Tuesday, although Calvo asserted that the club will not submit an official appeal of the Colombian’s sending off.

Speaking to the press before Juventus kicked off against Lazio, Calvo said: “We are evaluating a potential appeal but only for the closure of the curva, not against the disqualification of Cuadrado.

“Regarding the chants, the videos show that the racist insults started in the 35th minute and no one asked us to activate the appropriate procedures.”
