Italian agent Dario Canovi, father of Thiago Motta’s representative Alessandro, believes the Bologna coach is ‘ready for Inter‘ and confirms PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi wanted to hire him last summer and two years ago.

The ex-Italy international was appointed by Bologna in September, replacing Sinisa Mihajlovic and has won 10 of his 20 games in charge of the Rossoblu, including last weekend’s home match against Inter.

With Simone Inzaghi under severe pressure at the Stadio Meazza, Motta has been mentioned as a potential replacement for the Italian tactician in 2023-24.

Dario Canovi, an Italian agent and father of Motta’s representative Alessandro, believes Motta would be up to the task.

“He can coach any top team. Inter, Milan, Juventus or PSG. I am not the only one who thinks it,” he told TMW.

“Last year and two years ago he was close to PSG. The President is aware of Thiago’s worth. It’s all true, Al Khelaifi wanted him and believe me, it wouldn’t be too early. He knows everything about PSG.”

Motta has played for both Inter and PSG as a player, winning the Treble with the Nerazzurri in 2009-10.

He joined the Ligue 1 giants from Inter in January 2012 when Claudio Ranieri was in charge of the Benamata.

“Ranieri didn’t want to sell him, but Motta was not on good terms with [ex-Inter director] Marco Braca and a player he’s never liked but who was quite influential at the club.

“PSG doctors came to Milan for his medical and the agreement was to do the deal in June, but Motta called Massimo Moratti, asking him to leave immediately. Lucikly, he had already undergone his medical, so we managed to close the deal on the deadline day in January.”

Motta, 40, began his coaching career with PSG’s U19 squad and continued in Serie A with Genoa, Spezia and Bologna.
