Massimiliano Allegri lost the tactical battle to Stefano Pioli as Milan flew to a 2-0 win over Juventus yesterday, details the Italian press.

The Rossoneri put on a confident show at San Siro yesterday evening, with a late first half strike from Fikayo Tomori and a wonderful goal from Brahim Diaz securing all three points for the home side. The Bianconeri did not look set up for victory and it was another disappointing display from the Old Lady.

Allegri was partly to blame for Juventus’ defeat, something the Italian newspapers had no difficulty in highlighting. La Gazzetta dello Sport was unimpressed with his substitutions, saying how “when he put his hand to the system with the changes, it’s no longer clear what Juve would like to do.”

Corriere della Sera were a little more dramatic, suggesting the defeat was emblematic of their current struggles, noting “more than a breakthrough, it’s a complete fiasco. Not even a shot on goal, not a shred of a reaction, a lesson from a team that has seven players out through injury. In short: the crisis is still deep.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport had much higher praise for Pioli, underlining his detailed work behind the scenes, “he beat Allegri for the first time because he didn’t stop. Study, analysis, empathy. This is how he dismantles and reassembles Milan as needed, without losing the thread of the game and identity.”

Tuttosport noted that the Rossoneri coach beat his Bianconeri counterpart on a tactical level, suggesting “like Allegri he has several absentees, but he clearly wins the match from a tactical point of view.”
