Milan are stalling their move for Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo as the French champions are unwilling to budge over their €20 million asking price, according to reports in Italy.
The 26-year-old can play as a central defender as well as left-back, which means he could provide cover for Theo Hernández.
However, Il Corriere dello Sport report PSG have set an asking price and are unwilling to lower it.
The report suggests Milan abandoned their long-term pursuit of defender Sven Botman – who eventually joined Newcastle United – and are in the market for a low-cost centre-back.
Diallo fits the bill in terms of profile but the €20m fee has led Milan to stall their interest to see if PSG are willing to eventually lower the asking price the nearer to the end of the transfer window they go.
It appears Milan will lose central defender Alessio Romagnoli this summer, with Lazio and Premier League side Fulham interested.
Good. Lets hope PSG stick to thier guns so we don’t have to see him in Serie A. Get a youngster from the academy this will help Italy aswell as save Milan money
A poor club dilemma
All this can be avoided by keeping Romagnoli or Caldara. No need to waste 20m on a player who probably barely gets in the team.
I mean, again, Milan probably want someone with CL experience, which Caldara doesn’t have and Romagnoli barely. Diallo might look like a lesser player but e does have a lot of European experience. That is the reality of Milan unfortunately. We haven’t been in Europe for many years.
For 20m though, PSG can keep him.

-Milan fan it’s the mentality of ‘buy’ experience that has put the whole of Serie A in this mess. 20mil in modern football gets you nothing. I don’t think Diallo has been anything more than a bench warmer for PSG [i dont watch french football and have no intention to start] but for 20mil he is obviously not a premium player which means he spends more time on the bench than on the field; now if i am wrong and he plays week after week and is infact ‘premium’ then he obviously isn’t any good anyway. Either way he is either ‘experienced’ in Europe from the bench or he is rubbish.
So Rom or Caldara should stay as it clearly doesn’t change Milan in anyway apart from once again throwing an Italian out to bring in an average foreign player.
I don’t see the relevance of CL experience. Ok you played some games in the CL competition, and… so? Does that suddenly make you better? The problem with Caldara and Romagnoli isn’t their experience or lack thereof. Caldara seemed like a hot prospect but then performed poorly after his long term injury. Romagnoli is slow and has given away too many PKs with his errors. That’s the real issue, not whether they played in the CL. I have no opinion on Diallo as I’ve never watched him play. But if he’s good then he’s good, regardless of CL. Either way I don’t want us to spend 20 mil on a defender when we need that money for positions up front, and are decently covered already in defence. If Kjaer is truly back and is able to quickly regain his form, then between him, Kallulu, and Tomori, the CB role doesn’t need urgent reinforcements.
Yep, he’s not exactly nailed on at PSG so his CL experience is limited. Might as well give our own players the experience this season (Tomori and Kalulu in particular) rather than dropping Diallo in for European games. He won’t start in the league which is why I mention Euro games only, If he was 5m, I’d still take Romagnoli or Caldara. Both are superior players in my eyes.
