Roma are anxiously awaiting news of test results after Lorenzo Pellegrini pulled out during the warm-up against Cagliari, fearing a relapse of an old injury.

The midfielder had been due to start at the Stadio Olimpico and was going to be the captain of his squad.

However, he felt a twinge during the warm-up while practicing kicks from distance and was replaced in the starting XI by Jordan Veretout.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the twinge was felt at the exact same spot where Pellegrini still has scar tissue from a previous quadricep strain.

He had suffered that injury against Torino on November 28 and it kept him out of action for a month.

A relapse would therefore be very bad news for the Giallorossi and maybe even Italy with the World Cup play-offs against North Macedonia coming up in March.

More tests will be performed to evaluate the extent of the damage.
