According to Corriere della Sport, Roma advisor Franco Baldini reached out to Sousa as early as September, whereas the Portuguese is unwilling to commit to Bordeaux until he receives a firm answer from Roma.

However, the newspaper warns that while the ex-Juventus midfielder wants a two-year contract, the Giallorossi only want him to tie him down until the end of the season, in the event they do not qualify for the Champions League.

Nontheless, the 48-year-old will be in the stands at Estadio Dragao on Wednesday to watch his prospective new team take on Porto in the Champions League last 16.

Former Bologna Coach Roberto Donadoni and Roma old boy Christian Panucci would also be under consideration for the role of caretaker.
