Cristiano Ronaldo came second in the Ballon d’Or vote behind former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric.

France Football announced the results in this evening’s ceremony.

Modric won with 753 points, followed by current Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo on 476.

Antoine Griezmann came third on 414 points, then Kylian Mbappé on 347 with Lionel Messi only fifth on 280 points.

It is the first time since 2006 that Messi has not been in the top three.

The top 10 is completed by Mohamed Salah (188), Raphael Varane (121), Eden Hazard (119), Kevin de Bruyne (29) and Harry Kane (25).

Former Juve midfielder Paul Pogba came in 15th place with just nine votes.

It was rumoured Cristiano Ronaldo and Atletico Madrid man Griezmann would not attend the ceremony, knowing they hadn't won.

CR7 has won the Ballon d'Or five times, most recently in 2017.
