“I’m very confident, above all because of the difficult periods that everyone goes through,” Zanetti told Premium Sport.

“The important thing is knowing how to overcome those, and this team is proving that it knows how to do that.

“The derby is always very important, because it’s really deeply felt. It’s a meeting between two great teams with the same objective.

“First we have to think about Verona though, then we’ll prepare to challenge Milan in the best way.”

Argentina Coach Jorge Sampaoli hinted yesterday that Mauro Icardi won’t be called for the World Cup, despite his fine goalscoring form for the Beneamata.

“All he has to do to aspire to the World Cup is perform on the pitch,” Zanetti advised.

“The most important thing is for Mauro to continue like this, I hope he can go to the World Cup.”
