“We could and should have done better,” Inzaghi conceded in his post-match interview at the Stadio Olimpico.

“SPAL played a good match, not just defensively, but in attack as well.

“We didn’t do well, we should have done more.

“Seven days ago we beat Juventus. Sometimes what matters is the interpretation of the match.”

Despite the stalemate, the Aquile Coach says he is aiming high for the season ahead.

“Champions League? We have the same targets as last season. We need to remain high up in Serie A.”

Inzaghi was also asked for his opinion on the VAR system, newly-introduced to Serie A.

“VAR? I approve of it, although I hope they can reduce the time it takes to make a decision.”

Defender Wesley Hoedt is set to leave Lazio to join Southampton.

“The boy wants to play more regularly. For him, the space he had here wasn’t enough. An unhappy player cannot stay.”
