Their pursuit of the Roma midfielder is no secret, but offers of up to €35m have been rejected so far this summer.

“I spoke to Conte, who already wanted me at Juventus,” said the Belgium international in a Press conference.

“When you see how much he won at Juve after being promoted to Serie A with Siena, you realise he has qualities. I had a great conversation with him, he is an interesting person.

“He talked to me about his expectations of me and what kind of a player I could be for him. I will never be someone who scores 20 goals or assists per season, but I can be important for a team. If a Coach appreciates that, then fine.

“Will I remain at Roma? I don’t know, I’ve always said it would be difficult to leave Italy after 12 years, so we’ll see what happens over the next few weeks.

“Thibaut Courtouis and Eden Hazard also urged me to come to Chelsea, but a possible transfer is not in my thoughts right now. I am totally concentrated on the Euros.”
