Despite winning the Champions League and Copa Del Rey last season, the Italian is widely expected to be shown the Bernabeu door with only the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup secured this season.

La Repubblica believes that, after interest from Manchester City cooled, the former midfielder has two options for the future.

The first would be to return to the Rossoneri, where he won two Champions League titles and the Scudetto.

Gianluca Di Marzio’s website believes the Diavolo are quietly optimistic of convincing the Coach to return, while Gazzetta dello Sport reports constant contact with the club’s joint-CEO Adriano Galliani.

Gazzetta claims that Carletto would accept a deal worth €2.5m per year, as he’d be due a severance pay of between €5-6m from Real Madrid.

However, the club would have to convince Ancelotti that it is willing to invest to take Milan back to competing for trophies, after successive disappointing seasons.

The other option which the former Juventus Coach could consider is taking a sabbatical for a year, in order to wait for other jobs to open up.
