Leonardo Bonucci believes that the door is not closed for Mario Balotelli’s international career, even if he’s going through a ‘bad period’.

The Liverpool striker has not been included in Antonio Conte’s latest Azzurri squad, and has not featured for his country since the current CT took over.

“He’s going through a bad period,” Bonucci admitted when asked about Balotelli in a Press conference ahead of the qualifier against Bulgaria.

“However, at Euro 2012 he was one of our most important players. It’s clear that the door to this national team will always be open to those who are willing to sacrifice.”

The defender also echoed the words of Gigi Buffon, who said earlier today that Conte had recreated his Juventus approach with the national team.

“Conte is the same as the person who coached at Juventus, he hasn’t changed since Vinovo.

“His ideas about football are very strong, we Bianconeri had very good technical and tactical skills after three years.

“These ten days with him are wonderful for all of us, he transmits his charisma here too.”
