The Azzurri continue Euro 2016 qualifying against Croatia in Milan later this month, before two days later facing Albania in a friendly in Genoa.

The Gazzetta dello Sport report that for those games, Napoli’s Insigne is in contention for selection following improved domestic form.

Furthermore, the Gazzetta indicate that Conte may be considering the 23-year-old for an unorthodox role.

Insigne customarily operates as a winger or attacking midfielder in Napoli’s 4-2-3-1 setup, and has been unable to find a role for the Azzurri in the Italy CT’s favoured 3-5-2 system.

However, Insigne could be fielded alongside Andrea Pirlo in the midfield three in this month’s fixtures.

The newspaper states that while this may seem unusual, Conte is giving serious consideration to the move, believing that having Insigne and Pirlo in midfield together will give his side more quality on the ball.
