Bologna fans have been cleared of aiming racist chants at Juventus striker Moise Kean during the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

A few jeers in the opening minutes of the game sparked controversy, with suggestions monkey noises were made when the striker touched the ball.

Bologna fans have been cleared of aiming racist chants at Juventus striker Moise Kean during the Coppa Italia Round of 16.

A few jeers in the opening minutes of the game sparked controversy, with suggestions monkey noises were made when the striker touched the ball.

However, after Bologna ultras released a statement assuring these were simply boos at any Juve player who approached the goal, an investigation has backed their version of events.

The police and FIGC observers present at the Stadio Dall’Ara have confirmed the jeers were not specifically at Kean or other black Juventus players.

Some have asked how this and other incidents involving Lazio ultras can be treated so differently to Inter penalised by a two-match home ban for their racist abuse of Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

It is largely with regards to the scope and consistency of the abuse.

During Inter-Napoli, the referee asked on three separate occasions for a statement to be read out over the speaker system warning play would be halted if the racist insults continued.

They carried on throughout the match, aimed specifically every time Koulibaly touched the ball, and was done by enough ultras to be clearly audible in the rest of the stadium.

Inter were also already on a warning for previous incidents of crowd trouble.
