Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti insists “we’re not aware of any interest from Real Madrid” in their captain Mauro Icardi.

The striker has a €110m release clause for foreign clubs which is valid for two weeks in July, and and has been widely rumoured that Los Merengues may look to activate that clause.

The striker has a €110m release clause for foreign clubs which is valid for two weeks in July, and and has been widely rumoured that Los Merengues may look to activate that clause.

“Icardi is our captain and our reference point,” Zanetti told Marca.

“He’s also very happy at Inter though. We’re not aware of any interest from Real Madrid. We’re aware that Inter are in good shape and don’t have to sell to continue to respect Financial Fair Play.”

The Nerazzurri take on Barcelona in the Champions League tonight, and the club legend also looked ahead to that game.

“I expect a very difficult game, they have quality throughout the side but Inter have everything to aim for a win.

“I don’t think we’ll see a very different Barça [from the first game], they’ll go out and do the same because they never change their philosophy.

“They’ll want to control the game and we’ll need to counteract that.

“We started well at Camp Nou, but Barcelona made the most of their possession and scored at the right time. They went into the break 1-0 up and that was important.

“Lionel Messi? It’s a pleasure to watch him play, but I hope he stays on the bench for a bit… I know him a little though, and he’ll be desperate to get on the pitch.”
