Today saw Juventus Coach Massimiliano Allegri awarded the Panchina d’Or and, after admitting he voted for Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini, the Nerazzurri boss spoke to Sky.

“We still have time to prove we have the quality of consistency,” Spalletti explained.

“We need to work in a way that can build for the future, something with more solid foundations. We’re still on course and I believe we can reach fourth place.”

Spalletti was then asked about the Italian national team, and who he’d back to be the next CT.

“The result distorted the team’s performance against Argentina, Italy played well.

“Luigi Di Biagio? It’s a role that has to be competed for, against names who have more experience, but he’s doing his work.

“I’d say [Carlo] Ancelotti or [Roberto] Mancini, two figures with absolute value and knowledge. I like Carlo, just as I like Roberto, but it will be difficult for both.”

Mauro Icardi was snubbed by Argentina Coach Jorge Sampaoli for this month’s friendlies…

“With these call-ups, Sampaoli made the choice to get to know other players,” Spalletti said.

“With Mauro two training sessions are enough. It’s not just his goals that are important, but the characteristics he shows with his personality and knowledge.

“He puts all his qualities on the table. They know him already, he’ll be at the World Cup.”
