“Will I start? I don’t think the Coach has decided the formation, but I’ll always give 100 per cent for this shirt.”

The 28-year-old has four goals in his first two Serie A games of the season, but insists he’s not getting ahead of himself.

“I’ve started well, but now I certainly want to achieve consistency. Some top players have arrived in our League.

“The best? [Edin] Dzeko and [Mario] Mandzukic I’d say are the best signings of the summer.

“Antonio Cassano? I can see he’s very motivated. He’s definitely very happy to have arrived here [at Sampdoria].”
