Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms “I’ve talked” to Genoa about Krzysztof Piątek but “I don’t want to get involved in auction”.

The Polish striker has been in sensational form since signing from Cracovia, with 13 goals in eight games for the Grifone so far this season.

“I’ve talked to [Genoa President Enrico] Preziosi and his agent,” De Laurentiis confirmed at an event for Club Napoli Solopaca.

“We still need to meet but I’ll leave our Coach [Carlo Ancelotti], who has a three-year contract we'd like to make six, to be calm, I don’t need to run and I don’t want to get involved in an auction.

“Without taking anything away from Piątek we’ll need to see if he can do as well in our setup as he does at Genoa.

“We’ve changed more than 20 players and we still have [Alex] Meret, [Amin] Younes and [Faouzi] Ghoulam to come in.”

De Laurentiis also spoke about Ancelotti, who has described Napoli as being like a family.

“I understand that the road is long and full of pitfalls that we can’t avoid, but this year I gave Ancelotti nine games to settle and he did it quickly.

“What really struck me is that when we first heard his choices for the Liverpool game he told me he was convinced that ‘we’ll win tonight’.

“It got to the 87th minute and nothing had happened yet, but at the beginning of that move I immediately thought we’d score.”
