Napoli defender Juan Camilo Zuniga will be out for at least six weeks after knee surgery, but there are complications.

The Colombian international went under the knife on Monday to resolve a long-standing knee ligament problem.

“Zuniga is back in Naples, as he was released from the clinic on Wednesday,” explained Professor Mariani, who performed the surgery.

“The operation was complex, because the lesion was not in a place that is easy to repair. He had the left-over symptoms from a meniscus operation he had undergone seven or eight years ago.

“This has not completely resolved the issue, as the degenerative effects are there and will remain. I promised to Napoli I’ll try to get Zuniga back to what he was like last year.

“Now Zuniga will have to undergo rehabilitation and at the end we’ll see if he will be back to the player he was.

“He should be back in full training in 45 days.”

Napoli defender Miguel Angel Britos also underwent treatment for a dislocated shoulder.
