Former Italy coach Dino Zoff came minutes away from winning Euro 2000, but believes Roberto Mancini can take the Azzurri ‘all the way’ next summer.

The tournament was meant to be in 2020, but was postponed by a year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Winning is always difficult, but he can do very well and has a great chance of going all the way,” Zoff told La Stampa newspaper.

“Winning is always difficult, but he can do very well and has a great chance of going all the way,” Zoff told La Stampa newspaper.

“The Azzurri are among the top four teams in Europe and Mancini’s work has been remarkable. However, this will be an anomalous tournament, not just because of Covid-19m but also as it’s an itinerant competition, so games will be played in several different countries.

“I’m not sure that is helping, in fact it makes the trophy seem slightly less important.”

It was in Belgium and Holland in 2000 when Zoff’s Italy reached the Final and had been 1-0 up until stoppages against France, only to be forced into extra time and lose to a Golden Goal.
