Mancini is expected to be confirmed as the new Nerazzurri boss today, replacing the sacked Walter Mazzarri with Inter ninth in the table.
Zenga played over 300 games for the Beneamata, and was reported as a candidate for the job.
Speaking through his Twitter account, Zenga appeared to confirm Mancini’s appointment, while admitting he had wanted to job.
“Mancini is their choice,” Zenga wrote on the social networking site.
“I was there, in the ‘race’ my dream was close. Maybe in another life. Thanks everyone.”
