The Brazilian-Italian forward scored 12 goals in 19 Serie A games for Samp, but hasn’t found the net in his first eight appearances for Inter.

“I can only praise Eder, because he was a fundamental player for me,” said ex-Sampdoria Coach Zenga.

“I had understood how to use him at his best. Under Sinisa Mihajlovic he even played as a full-back sometimes in the 4-3-3, whereas I asked him to not go deep and concentrate only on scoring goals.

“He is a very generous player, perhaps too generous, and that can in a way become a problem. He works so hard and sacrifices himself for the team, so in the end he pays for that fatigue by not being sharp in front of goal.

“Making a January transfer is always difficult, because you never have the right time to adapt to this new reality. In any case, I think Eder will turn out to be a fundamental signing for Inter.

“If I was on a club bench right now, the first name I’d ask for would be Eder.”
