Walter Zenga can’t work out why Crotone came out so sluggish for the second half in their 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo.

This was his debut on the Squali bench and he was only appointed on Friday, as Davide Nicola handed in a surprise resignation on Wednesday.

“My regrets for today’s game are that we didn’t come out for the second half on the right foot,” Zenga told Sky Sport Italia.

“My regrets for today’s game are that we didn’t come out for the second half on the right foot,” Zenga told Sky Sport Italia.

“In general, we played with character and hunger, the team reacted really well to going behind and Ante Budimir had a great chance to equalise.

“I need to figure out how a team that controlled the game so well in the first half can begin the second so badly. I shouted many times that we weren’t on the right track.

“I have just arrived and there hasn’t been much time to work, but that’s not an alibi. It won’t be easy to ensure safety, but it’s certainly not impossible. Crotone proved that last season and can do it again.”
