Roma goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg admits he was “surprised” at Luis Enrique’s departure and knows nothing about new boss Zdenek Zeman.

“It was a surprise and I really wasn’t expecting it,” said the Dutchman on international duty ahead of Euro 2012.

“I chose Roma because it is a great club in a magnificent city, but also thanks to the fact Luis Enrique was there. He wanted to play attacking football without overlooking defence. It’s an idea of football I was used to with Ajax and Holland.”

Arguably replacement Zeman is even more attack-minded and focused on entertaining the crowds, but he’s a mystery to Stek.

“I only know his name. I’ll have the chance to know more when I get back to Rome, once the Euros and my vacation are over.”
