Javier Zanetti says he will patiently wait for his chance in the Inter side after just returning from serious injury.

The 40-year-old made his comeback in the game against Livorno before the international break after damaging his Achilles tendon in April.

Coming off this serious injury, my first sensations in the Livorno game were fantastic,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “This was the first step I had to take.

“Right now the team is doing very well and I don’t believe I have to begin as a starter. I just came back.

“I’ll get into a condition that will allow me to give the team a hand, just as I always do.

“The most important thing we can do as a group is to be competitive and we all want to play our part.”

Zanetti was Massimo Moratti’s first signing at the club in 1995, but the outfit is now in control of Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir.

“We spoke and I believe he’s a man with very clear ideas,” the Argentine added.

“Right now I imagine he wants to learn more about living in Italy, how football is run here, and from this point he’ll certainly look to take this club as high as he can.

“It’s been an intense week,” Zanetti added. “I think Thohir became more familiar with the components that make up this great Inter family, so he must have taken away a good idea.

“I believe he’s someone who intends to take Inter even higher and, together with the Moratti family, they’ll work hard to achieve this.”
