The captain is not too far off that now, as he turned 39 in August and is already older than Coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

“My objective is to play until I’m 40 years old and I certainly think I can do it,” he told Radio 105 this afternoon.

“Are there too many games in quick succession nowadays? To recover quickly from one match to the next you have to immerse yourself in ice. It really helps.”

El Tractor was also asked about his best and worst moments of tonight’s fixture, which sees Inter travel to Turin.

“Certainly the happiest moment was on April 16 2010, when Douglas Maicon scored a wonderful goal to break the deadlock.

“The worst memory is that of 1998. I think the key to tonight’s game will be the duel between Andrea Pirlo and Esteban Cambiasso in midfield.”
