President Erick Thohir told journalists this week that the captain will “become part of the management” next year, suggesting he will retire at the age of 40.
“When the campaign ends, I will stay at Inter after this season, but I don’t know yet in which role,” Zanetti told Tyc Sports in Argentina.
“I am concentrated on these final three weeks of the season and we hope to end well so that we can start the next step in the best way.
“I have already played 1,112 games, so the only ones with more appearances than me are goalkeepers!”
Zanetti was asked about his old teammate Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid knocking Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea out of the Champions League.
“I am happy for him as a friend, but I am not surprised. Mourinho remains a great Coach anyway, as I had two fantastic years with him.”
Zanetti was captain of the Inter side that won the Treble in 2010 with Mou on the bench.
