Inter vice-President Javier Zanetti believes “there are many teams” who can hope to challenge Juventus for the Scudetto.

The Bianconeri have won the League for the past five seasons in a row, and looked to be on course for another title when they moved seven points clear just before Christmas.

However, defeat to Fiorentina on Sunday night has seen the gap reduced to just one point – albeit with the Old Lady having a game in hand – and the Nerazzurri VP is hoping for a proper title race.

“This is such a competitive and beautiful League, and I hope it keeps going like this,” Zanetti said, having attended a Football and Disability event in Rome.

“I think Juve are still favourites, but there are a lot of teams who can dream of keeping the Scudetto race alive.

“The potential is there, I see a lot of well-equipped teams and I hope it stays this compelling until the end because it would make the fans happy.”

Zanetti was also asked about two of the Beneamata’s big money signings, Roberto Gagliardini and Gabigol.

“Gabigol deserved the opportunity [of starting in the Coppa last night] because it wasn’t easy for him to not be playing for such a long time.

“We have a lot of confidence in him, he’s a young player who we have to work on and allow time to adapt to the Italian League.

“As for Gagliardini, we’re very happy with his two games. He represents not just the present, but also the future of our club.

“We also have to thank Atalanta, who did a great job with the youth setup and are continuing to do so.”
