“When you are in the Champions League, the sensations are always positive. It’s a difficult arena to play in, but Inter are ready for a great performance,” Zanetti told Sky Sport Italia.

“We must continue to believe in the style of performance we showed against Real Madrid, because we are on the right track.”

Simone Inzaghi has brought another, more attacking and possession-based approach to the counter-attacking ideals of Antonio Conte.

“It is different, there are many alternatives we can use and the lads believe in this approach. Balance is important and I am sure we’ll find it.

“After winning the Scudetto last season, this gave the team so much self-belief and confidence. The lads feel they are strong, you can see from the way they approach the game and I hope we can go as far as possible.”

It was a 2-1 comeback win over Dynamo Kiev in November 2009 that sparked Mourinho and Inter’s road to the Treble.

“It was one of the most exciting nights in my career. I remember we were losing 1-0 and Mou came into the locker room, told us as things stood we were out of the competition. He made only attacking substitutions, I went to centre-back, and it started the road that took us to lift the trophy.”
