It is now official – Javier Zanetti has snapped his left Achilles tendon and will be out of action for up to eight months, but insists “my career is not over.”

The Inter captain turns 40 in August, but that is not denting his confidence after today’s setback.

“My career is not over,” he declared outside the clinic where he underwent the tests.

“After such a long time, I needed a tyre change… I want to come back stronger than ever. It’s just a shame I can’t give a hand to my teammates, but I have faith we can reach a Europa League spot.

“Will Andrea Stramaccioni stay? That is up to the club. They want to make a stronger Inter and one that I’ll be playing in too. I thank all my colleagues for their kind words.”
