Javier Zanetti says Inter want to win the Europa League, and confirms new arrivals before the transfer deadline.

Today saw the draw for the Group Stage of the Europa League, with the Nerazzurri facing Sparta Prague, Southampton and Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

“Inter must be protagonists in the Europa Leauge,” Zanetti told Sky.

“Our history tells us that, because we’ve won the trophy many times and we want to do it again this time. It’s a challenging group.

“We’re facing teams who will make us sweat to make the next round, but we’re Inter and we hope to be protagonists in this competition.”

Sporting CP midfielder Joao Mario and Santos forward Gabriel Barbosa are both expected in Milan today, and Zanetti confirmed there will be signings before Wednesday’s transfer deadline.

“There will be news in this last week, and we’ll see what happens. Whoever comes will be a reinforcement and will be welcome.

“Even if we stay as we are though, the team is already strong. We have to give time to our Coach [Frank de Boer] and the new owners, even if it’s true there is never much time at a big club.

“For that reason, we’ll do everything in our power to make sure the mentality of the team changes starting Sunday. I’m convinced the current squad can be competitive in Italy and in Europe.

“We need to find the right chemistry to get back to being protagonists.

“Whoever plays at Inter should honour the shirt.”
