The striker returned to training this week after 40 days out with a knee injury, which coincided with the decision to suddenly strip him of the club captaincy.

With Lautaro Martinez injured, it’s possible Icardi will have to start Sunday’s Serie A showdown with Lazio.

“The issue has been resolved, now the most important thing is focusing on the team’s fundamental objective,” Zanetti told Sky Sport Italia.

“Too much has been said about it. Now we need action rather than words. We have 10 games left and we must all stick together to achieve our objective.

“We have a great objective, which is to qualify for the Champions League. We have 10 games left and on Sunday we’ll be facing a direct competitor in Lazio, which is always a demanding game.

“Having said that, I’m sure Luciano Spalletti and the lads will prepare for it as best they can.”
