Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini insists “Delio Rossi is safe,” but blasts his former director of sport and goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu.

“If Rossi loses five games on the trot, then obviously he'll be up for debate, just as anyone would be, even Rafa Benitez,” said the patron.

“As Rossi has lost four, many of them undeservedly, he is safe. We should've had a penalty against Lazio and they won because of an incident, but everyone has forgotten the leaders played catenaccio.

“The defence does have some problems, so we will try to repair the situation in January. I have reiterated with Rossi today that all future decisions will be made together.”

Zamparini has always been a very hands-on President and will take even more control now that director of sport Walter Sabatini has resigned.

“It is always sad when a relationship breaks down. Sabatini was one of the best directors I had and an honest man. There were a few clashes. The only problem is he's also very proud and faced with my criticism he opted to resign.

“At the moment we will stay like this. Cagliari President Massimo Cellino hasn't had a director of sport for three years and I don't see why I can't do that too.”

One of the first jobs is negotiating with Italy goalkeeper Sirigu, who would like a raise considering his strong performances.

“At this moment I am forced to pay Nicolas Bertolo, who is playing at Zaragoza, and Maurizio Ciaramitaro who is out of the squad. Nobody proposes a wage reduction to me,” slammed Zamparini.

“Those who have been playing well for a year, though, are immediately up for an improvement. I say Samir Ujkani is doing very well on loan at Novara, so Sirigu ought to be worried, not Palermo.

“Having said that, if the goalkeeper confirms his abilities, then I will certainly think about it.”

Sirigu was the third choice goalkeeper last season, but due to a series of mishaps he ended up taking the gloves and earning a World Cup spot.

However, he is still one of the lowest earners at Palermo on just €230,000 per season.
