Maurizio Zamparini claims Parma were “helped” to beat Palermo last night, with the Ducali asking the Lega Serie B to take action.

The Rosanero were beaten 3-2 last night, with a penalty awarded to the hosts and the first goal appearing to be offside.

“It was a match that I feared a lot, because of exactly what happened,” Zamparini, the owner, told Palermo’s official website.

“These are things that always happen with Parma. Go and look at the play-off for Serie B last year, Parma-Pordenone, and you’ll see the same movie from last night.

“When the referee makes a mistake, it’s a mistake. But when he makes one, two, three – all of them against Palermo – someone has to investigate.

“Today I read in a Palermo newspaper with astonishment that ‘maybe’ the first goal was offside. All of the Press said the offside was clear, it was even flagged by the linesman.

“As for the penalty, it’s bad to say ‘I’ve seen them given’, even if he’s not been touched. Palermo last night were subjected to something filthy, someone at the Prosecutor’s office should investigate and look at it.

“Frosinone? We hope ‘they’ will let us play football and not affect us like last night. When I see a team helped like Parma were last night I get very worried.

“I’m not calm, what happened last night disturbed me.”

Parma then hit back with a statement of their own, unsurprisingly condemning Zamparini for his words.

“From the day we restarted in Serie D, our club has chosen to totally ignore controversy, statements or comments on the work of the referees.

“We have done that and will continue to do so out of respect for all the components and to make a small contribution to a better football world.

“We’re very disappointed that this attitude, instead of being appreciated and encouraged, for three years has instead been systematically used by those in the football world who continue to shout scandal, to insinuate plots, creating tension, prejudice and falsehoods.

“For this reason, despite the line that this club has set itself, it is unthinkable to remain silent in the face of today's statements.

“Alluding to supposed conspiracies is very sad and decidedly serious.

“It also shows a poor memory, when you think back to the first game and [Riccardo] Gagliolo’s disallowed goal at the end.

“That goal would have given our team three crucial points, but on that occasion Parma didn’t allow ourselves to comment in any way on the incident.

“It’s also curious that the Palermo owner mentions a game last season, the play-off semi-final of the Lega Pro, which has nothing to do with his club and where the allegations were painted by those who probably don’t want to accept the verdict on the pitch.

“It’s not our intention to go back and rake over the whole game [there are clear images available to everyone] but the incidents in Parma-Pordenone show how sometimes certain expressions, if repeated, can distort an entire historical reality.

“That creates urban legends which – after almost a year of defamatory allegations – Parma can no longer remain silent about.

“Both before and after the match last night, all of our members emphasised the absolute technical value of Palermo, reiterated by the same Zamparini in the week leading up to the match.

“However, the pitch gave us a different result than the expected one – to not accept that and stick with allegations and insinuations of this kind is absolutely unacceptable.

“For these reasons, Parma Calcio 1913 will no longer bear the weight of irresponsible words and asks the relevant bodies to take timely measures to protect the image of our club, respecting our fans and this sport.”
